The Problem with Hiring Non-English speakers.

Many people hire non-English speaking freelancers, often from South Asia, because they offer services at a fraction of the cost. While hiring a foreign freelancer can be cheap, poor communication often leads to frustration, wasted time and un-expected results. Cheap can mean they miss those small improvements, that when added up, separate a mediocre book from one that looks professionally designed.  Also, while i’m not a proof reader, being a native English speaker means I will look out for any editorial mistakes I come across.

What do you get

A epub file

I will convert your manuscript into an epub file ready to upload to Kindle Direct Publishing, ibooks or any other publishing platform, with no formatting errors or problems.  All you will need to do is upload the epub and you’re done.

A Paperback book

Some customers prefer reading a physical book they can hold in their hands. It’s common nowadays to have a paperback sold with an eBook, giving your readers the choice of buying a physical copy of your book or reading it on their mobile device. My Kindle Conversion Service means you can sell your paperback book alongside your eBook on big publishing sites such as Amazon Kindle.

I will convert your word document into a print ready PDF ready to be uploaded to Kindle Directly Publishing. This will incur an extra charge.

Professional Text and Graphics conversion

I clean up text to remove any unnecessary tabs, spaces and paragraphs, create a device table of contents, an in-book table of contents, embed fonts and create an index if your book requires it. I will take care of your visual elements; images, charts, graphs, tables, drawings, photographs, and more.

Multiple Revisions

I will work one-on-one with you so I will get to know your likes and dislikes and you can suggest any changes you would like to your book.

Kindle Conversion services FAQs

Q. Does ebook conversion include editing and proof reading?
No, eBook formatting and conversion is done at the very end after your book has been edited and proofread. Typesetting is the interior design and layout of your book, using your final edited manuscript. While I will look out for any spelling mistakes I come across, this is best done by a professionally editor and proof reader.
Q. Can you make edits to the eBook if I want to make changes or fix typos.
Yes, and I will not charge anything for the first 10 changes. After this I will charge £1.00 or $1.25 for every editorial change/typo after that. For example, if you discover 20 typos to correct, this will cost 10 x £1.00 or £10.00 / $12.50.

Text Edits include single changes made to one place in the book (for example a typo, or punctuation change) and global changes when the same error appears several times in the book (for example the spelling of someone’s name). Each single change or global change counts as 1 Text Edit. Pricing is per round.
Q. What files should I send you?
You can send me your Microsoft word files including; .docx, .doc and .rtf. If you have any images you would like included you can also send these. Just visit this link and upload them now.
Q. How long will the interior design and typesetting?
For a book that is around 70,000 words it should take less than a week to receive your typeset sample for review, although this will vary depending on the number of images/tables and the complexity of the formatting. It may then take another week to implement any ideas, suggestions or improvements to the book.
Q. How many changes can I make?
You can receive unlimited design changes at no extra charge. You can also receive up to 10 text changes for free, such as additional paragraphs you forgot to include or missed spelling mistakes you later discover. After this I will charge £0.40 or $0.50 for every editorial change/typo after that. For example, if you discover 20 typos to correct, this will cost 10 x £0.4 or £4.00 / $3.20.
Q. How can I receive a quick price quote now?
Wondering how much my typesetting service will cost. This will depend on a number of factors such as the number of pages, images/tables, whether you want a cover for your book, a paperback version of your book. Just visit this link to get a free instant quote right now.
Yes, you can have hyperlinks, and this can be useful if you want to link to resources that complement the eBook. When you click or press the selection of text that is linked, it will lead to a website. You will need to include the hyperlinks in your manuscript. Please note that some devices will apply their own styling to links.
Q. What is eBook formatting?
eBook formatting is a standard design process that turns your text and images into an attractive layout for readers to enjoy on their digital devices, such as their mobile, tablet or PC. While there are similarities between eBooks and printed books, ebooks have more in common with webpages than physical books.

Because of the way text is displayed on an e-reader device, the text is required to meet specific eBook formatting requirements, so it is clean and readable. Just like most webpages, re-flowable ebooks are designed to adapt to the size and shape of the e-reader device, whether it is a mobile, tablet or PC. Also, just like internet pages, the internal files of an eBook are comprised of CSS and HTML and need to style the text and images in a way that works with all reading devices.

I design both paperback books and ebooks and hold both formats to the same professional standard so your book will look great in any format you choose.
Q. What is DRM (Digital Rights Management)
DRM refers to Digital Rights Management and it has to do with restrictions on sharing your ePUB file. If you check YES, each of our retail partners will sell the book with their proprietary copy and usage restrictions. Generally, this means that books purchased through their store will only be readable on their store’s hardware, and there will be a limit to the number of machines a customer can add to their store account. If you check NO, then your book will be DRM free. In most cases, readers will still have to use a particular store’s eReader (i.e. the Kindle to read books from Amazon) but they will be able to read the books on a greater number of registered devices.

To DRM or not to DRM… is a pretty contentious question. The trend is to sell more and more content online without it since, the argument goes, it really only penalizes the people who buy things legitimately and there’s no 100% sure way to prevent on-line piracy. The argument for it is that it does make it a little harder to copy and upload files, and it does lock people (who haven’t figured out how to jailbreak their device) into one piece of hardware. So, it’s really up to you. A fair account of both sides of the argument can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_rights_management
Q. Why doesn't my eBook have page numbers?
Unlike paperback books eBooks do not have page numbers because they must display in different devices with different screen sizes. Some eReading devices will assign page numbers, but changing the font type or font size can result in different page numbers and the number of pages can change. Therefore there are no true page number in an eBook.
Q. What size and format should my eBook images be?
Cover image: If you choose to provide your own cover image, it should be at least 1400px wide, use rectangle shaped artwork with a height to width ratio of 1.5 (1400px wide by 2100px high).

Full-page images: If you plan to have full page images these should be at least 1400px wide, use rectangle shaped artwork with a height to width ratio of 1.5 (1400px wide by 2100px high).

Format: Ideally your images should be in .jpg or .png, with a minimum of 150 dpi resolution, and in RGB colour mode.
Ideally you should include the images you want inside your book separately and in the largest size. Then make it clear where you would like the images to appear. Any image editing done with you your word document will be discarded during conversion.
Q. How will my eBook differ from a print book?
There are a number of differences between a print book and an eBook and you should not expect them to look exactly the same.

Page number: There are no page numbers in an eBook because screen size and differ between different eReader devices and the font size can be adjusted by the reader. Also continues scrolling in some devices means page numbers becoming meaningless.

Text wrapping: Most eReader devices cannot wrap text around images and on small screens there may be limited space for both an image and text to appear next to each other.

Justified text: Justified text is not recommended for an eBook as this can result in irregular spacing between words and for small screens there isn’t enough space for justified text.

Custom fonts: While you have more flexibility in a print book when it comes to special fonts and characters, you are more limited with an eBook as the body text is often replaced with the font in the eReader’s font library. While I will try to embed special fonts inside the eBook these should be used sparingly.

Emojis: Emojis should be excluded from your eBook as not all eReader’s support them and will omit them completely.

Back cover: While print books contain a back cover which can be used to entice a buyer they are excluded from eBooks and will only be shown after the customer has purchased the eBook.
